Thursday, August 1, 2019 ~ Disembark Ship . World War 2 Cave Shelter . Ivalo, Finland

Just before we disembarked the ship this morning, we had a special invitation to go up on the bridge and meet the captain.  He is in the white shirt.
The captain is talking to the group here.

Waterfall along the way
We went up to the Russian border, but we drove the other way.
Welcome to Finland.  We drove along a 2-lane curvy tree-lined highway.  We passed many lakes.

We went underground to see a World War 2 shelter in Kirkenes.  We saw a short film, then we were told about the Germans and Russians occupying the town and causing lots of destruction.

Wednesday, July 31, 2019 ~ The North Cape

After lunch we got off the ship on this chilly, cloudy day.  We went to the North Cape via bus.  It is the northernmost  place in Europe via paved road.  It was windy which later turned to fog then drizzle.  We saw several cyclists climbing the road.  There were herds of reindeer grazing near the road.  We went to the North Cape Visitor Center where we saw a movie similar to an iMax movie about this region.  We went to other displays. Then we rode back to the ship.
We attended a champagne reception for those of us who had gone on many trips with Overseas Adventure Travel.  Melissa pointed out this rock formation which resembles a church as the ship passed it.
